The role:

Under the general direction of the Associate Vice President for Finance, the Controller provides leadership for the University financial systems, financial reporting and a subset of the accounting and business service units within the Division of Finance and Administration (DFA).

 

The Controller is responsible for oversight of internal control systems and procedures with respect to university financial processes, financial reporting and asset ownership. Responsible for ensuring timely financial reporting for use by internal and external parties to enable them to have confidence in the financial management of the University. Responsible for providing complete, accurate, and timely business services in a manner that exemplifies customer service. Assists in development of long-term financial strategies and analysis for university administration and leadership and supports activities related to bond financing.

 

The Controller leads the design, development, and implementation of information systems and applications, directing the integration of DFA management applications with the institutional enterprise resource program (ERP), in support of the mission, goals, policies and procedures of the institution and DFA

 

Experience and Education You Will Bring:

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, or a Bachelor’s degree in business or related field with at least 20 semester credit hours in accounting.

8+ years related work experience, with 5+ years in supervisory or management capacity.

Practical experience with:

Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP);

Accounting systems in a large and complex operating environment; o Computerized ERP accounting systems;

Spreadsheets, word processing, presentation software, and database software; o Design and monitoring of internal controls;

Preparation and analysis of financial statements and supporting schedules; o Analysis and interpretation of wide array of financial data and reporting to recommend management and administrative action;

Preparing narrative reports including financial, statistical, and graphical analysis and conclusions;

Project management and providing technical guidance to members of a project team;

Analyzing complex systems and sub-systems in order to achieve maximum results within an integrated, decentralized management environment.

 

Experience We Prefer You Have:

Masters degree in accounting, business administration, or related field.

Professional certification, i.e., CPA, CMA, CGFM

Experience with governmental accounting and knowledge of GASB

Accounting experience in a university setting.

Knowledge of Banner or other Oracle-based financial systems

Experience working with public higher education, and especially a land grant University

Experience in business process analysis
