Another Source’s client, UC Irvine, is recruiting a Director, Center for Emeriti and Retirees to join their team in sunny Irvine, California. This role works a hybrid schedule.

About the role 

The Director, Center for Emeriti and Retirees directs the efforts of UCI CER staff, vendors, volunteers, committees, and student assistants to design, implement, and promote pre- and post-retirement programs and partnerships, campus and community liaisons, and business services for all UCI faculty and staff retirees from both UCI campus and UC Irvine Health. Develops and implements CER strategic plan and budget, controls UCI Retirees Association and Emeriti Association foundation financial accounts. Directs staff and student assistants in the administration and business functions of the CER. Aligns CER, UCI EA Executive Committee, and UCI RA Board of Directors goals and objectives with UCI’s Strategic Plan. Effectively represents UCI as a presenter at local UC retirement meetings and conferences regarding retirement in higher education. 

 

What you will be doing: 

  • Provide in-depth, complex analyses as the subject matter expert or specialist for the Center for Emeriti and Retirees. 
  • Develops and coordinates policy or program communications; formulates strategic planning. Directs staff to create vehicles that promote campus and medical center research efforts that benefit emeriti and retirees and would benefit from emeriti and retiree volunteers. 
  • Develops and advocates solutions to CER program issues, including developing and administering new systems, policies, processes, or programs. Creates and oversees the implementation of UCI retiree and emeriti survey instruments to codify continuing academic, research, creative, and ongoing donor activities of emeriti and retirees to highlight to campus leadership, UC Office of the President, and community. 
  • Provides analyses for complex budget, funding, financial, or academic data, systems, and resource projects working directly with internal and external constituents. 
  • Handles all aspects of CER business management, including approving expenditures and allocations. Coordinates with all applicable staff that enter all payables, deposits, and MTFs for all Center and Association financial transactions; reconciling budget. 
  • Proposes, leads, and/or participates on policy, strategy, and planning committees and working groups. Trains staff to recruit volunteers for and organize committees which plan and execute Association and Center activities to include volunteer opportunities for campus, the medical center, and within the local community. 
  • Researches and summarizes best practices in field. Represents UCI and UC system-wide at local, statewide and national presentations on Retirement/ Pathways to Retirement and Transforming Retirement in Higher Education conferences as a speaker/presenter. 
  • Develops proposals and recommendations to guide and support a broader strategic direction for CER. Designs and directs strategic plan which features complex operations of a broad scope.  In alignment with University strategic plan goals, evaluates the needs of emeriti and retired faculty and staff and soon-to-be emeriti and retirees to establish long and short term goals for pre- and post-retirement education and continued engagement. 
  • Collaborates with partners to coordinate the development, implementation and monitoring of new programs and processes. Directs staff and assistants to establish and maintain strategic partnerships with campus and medical center representatives, departments, local community, local and other government agencies as well as national entities to facilitate effective ambassador relationships, education and social programs, cost-savings and services.   
  • Guides and directs planning which may include senior management, faculty, and / or external constituencies. Develops and directs staff as well as committees of the UCI Emeriti Association and UCI Retirees Association Board of Directors towards beneficial Membership drives, Giving Day drives and Scholarship Opportunities to benefit UCI staff and students. 
  • Lead a team of lower-level analytical, research, and administrative staff. Directs staff who oversee dedicated volunteer and student assistants to maintain the Center database, website, listservs, email and retiree ID card processes, client records, participant lists, and communications. 
  • Approves all communications sent to UCI Emeriti and Retirees. Coordinate staff, volunteers, and paid assistants to develop meaningful marketing efforts. Train staff and develop online resources for emeriti and retiree and survivor spouse/partner questions regarding benefits, health insurance, and death benefits, referring to UCOP and UCI HR resources. 
  • Approves all email and mail communications efforts for CER. 

 

Minimum Requirements: 

  • 5 years experience in HR, Benefits, and/or Retirement with enhanced multi-generational communications. 
  • Bachelor's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training. 
  • Advanced knowledge of common organizational- or research-specific and other computer application programs.  
  • Independent leadership skills to develop, plan, and execute the mission of CER.  
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all levels of staff and influence, both verbally and in writing.  
  • Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.  
  • Advanced project management skills.  
  • Thorough knowledge of retirement and continuing benefit processes, protocols, and procedures.  
  • Ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes. 
  • Advanced knowledge of applicable policy analysis techniques.  
  • Advanced analytical / problem-solving skills. Ability to analyze, organize and develop creative solutions.  
  • Ability to develop and give presentations to diverse audiences.  
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of, and experience with, directing programmatic and administrative procedures and processes and training others to carry out.  
  • Extensive public relations, marketing, and community outreach experience to include website development and consistent electronic communications.  
  • Demonstrated skill in managing, directing, and motivating volunteers with diverse experiences and strengths in complex, consensus-based settings.  
  • Ability to establish effective, collaborative relationships and enlist support of all levels of constituents to mobilize each in a team effort.  
  • Ability to work as part of a team and to establish and maintain working relationships with colleagues, university departments, schools and administration.
