Description: What you'll be doing

Another Source’s client, Chapman University, is recruiting an Assistant Vice President of Compensation and Benefits to join their team in Orange, CA. This is a full-time, direct hire opportunity, with the expectation of on-site collaboration.

About the Role:   

As the Assistant Vice President of Compensation and Benefits, you will be a key leader in designing and managing comprehensive compensation and benefits strategies for Chapman University, supporting a workforce of approximately 2,500 employees. Your responsibilities will span the full spectrum of compensation and benefits, with a strong emphasis on fostering a culture of support and engagement for employees. In this role, you will report directly to the Vice President of Human Resources and lead a dedicated team of three professionals in Benefits and two in Compensation. 

 

What You’ll Do:   

  • Shape Compensation Strategies: Lead the design, implementation, and management of salary structures and compensation programs. Provide critical counsel on pay decisions and policy interpretation. 
  • Empower Growth: Conduct job analyses, assign pay grades, recommend salary adjustments, and maintain the institutional organizational charts. 
  • Guide Employee Benefits: Manage group insurance plans, process enrollments, and provide essential guidance on state and federal regulations. 
  • Advocate for Employee Success: Assist employees with retirement processes, troubleshoot benefits issues, and develop action plans for improvement. 
  • Lead the Team: Make decisions on hiring, performance evaluations, and employee development, and provide leadership on day-to-day benefits and compensation operations. 

 

What you will bring:   

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field. 
  • Experience: A minimum of seven (7) years of progressive experience in compensation and benefits. 
  • Certifications: Certifications such as CBP, CPP, SHRM SCP, or HRCI - SPHR are a plus. 
  • Knowledge: Deep understanding of federal, state, and local regulations affecting compensation and benefits in higher education. 
  • Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead and manage a team, as well as effectively communicate across diverse constituencies.
