The Role 

Reporting to the Vice President of Student Services, the Dean provides strategic and operational leadership for a dynamic portfolio that includes Counseling, Career Services, Disability Resource Center, EOPS/CARE, Learning Communities, Matriculation, Assessment, Articulation, New Student Orientation, Student Employment, the Transfer Center, and the One-Stop Student Services Center. 

The Dean will lead the division in planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating student success initiatives, ensuring alignment with accreditation standards, California Education Code, Title 5, and district policies. This role manages budgets, personnel, and grants, while fostering collaboration between Student Services and instructional divisions to create a student-centered educational environment. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Provide leadership, management, and development for day, evening, and weekend counseling programs and related student support services. 
  • Plan and conduct needs assessments and implement services to support student retention, transfer, and success. 
  • Oversee curriculum development, class scheduling, and program articulation agreements. 
  • Hire, supervise, and evaluate faculty and staff; promote professional development. 
  • Lead annual planning and budgeting processes for the division, including grant-funded initiatives. 
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and accreditation requirements. 
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and administration to integrate student services with academic programs. 
  • Serve as an active member of the College’s administrative team, contributing to institution-wide planning and problem-solving. 

What You’ll Bring (Required Qualifications) 

  • Master’s degree or higher from an accredited institution OR the equivalent. 
  • One year of formal training, internship, or leadership experience reasonably related to this managerial assignment. 
  • Demonstrated cultural competence and ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff from diverse academic, socioeconomic, ethnic, neurodivergent, and LGBTQIA+ backgrounds. 

What Might Strengthen Your Application (Preferred) 

  • Experience as a community college counselor, instructor, or student services supervisor. 
  • Knowledge of counseling, curriculum, assessment, retention, articulation, transfer, and graduation processes. 
  • Proven ability in budget and grant management, strategic planning, and program development. 
  • Familiarity with accreditation standards, California Education Code, Title 5, and collective bargaining agreements.
