The UCLA Civil Rights Office (CRO) identifies, communicates, investigates, and works to uphold civil rights protections for students, staff, faculty, and other academic personnel, as well as patients at UCLA Health. CRO ensures all members of the UCLA community can study, work, live, and receive medical treatment free from discrimination, harassment, and sexual violence.

What You’ll Be Doing: 
UCLA is seeking a strong leader to serve as the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Civil Rights. This pivotal role oversees the University’s efforts to foster an inclusive, equitable, and respectful campus environment by ensuring compliance with federal and state civil rights laws, including Title VI, Title IX, ADA, Section 504, and related statutes. 

The AVC leads a team of dedicated professionals who manage investigations, policy, education, and prevention initiatives. The successful candidate will bring: 

  • Deep understanding of civil rights law and compliance in higher education. 
  • Demonstrated experience handling complex and sensitive cases. 
  • A proven record of organizational leadership and policy development.

What You’ll Bring 

  • Juris Doctor (JD) and active law license (required). 
  • Knowledge of Title VI, Title VII, Title IX, ADA/Section 504, the Age Discrimination Act, and related laws. 
  • Demonstrated ability to review and revise policies to promote consistency and fairness. 
  • Familiarity with higher education policies and UC policies on discrimination, harassment, and retaliation. 
  • Experience supervising staff and overseeing investigations to ensure timeliness and policy compliance. 
  • Strong conflict resolution, mediation, and communication skills. 
  • Expertise in developing and delivering training and education programs for diverse campus audiences. 

Special Conditions for Employment 

  • Satisfactory background check (Live Scan required prior to start). 
  • Mandatory Reporter designation under CANRA. 

Schedule 
Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. PST
