Description: What you'll be doing

Another Source’s client, California State University, San Marcos, is recruiting an Assistant Director, Fraternity and Sorority Life to join their team on-site in San Marcos, CA.  This is an exciting opportunity to shape the future of Greek life at CSUSM and create an inclusive, vibrant student experience. 

 

Here’s a little about the Role:  

California State University, San Marcos (CSUSM) is seeking an Assistant Director, Fraternity & Sorority Life to join the Student Leadership & Involvement Center (SLIC). In this role, you’ll serve as the primary campus liaison for all fraternity and sorority stakeholders, providing leadership, guidance, and strategic direction for a vibrant community of 18 recognized Greek organizations.  

 

You’ll advise and support multiple governing councils and organizations, including: 

  • Greek Leadership Council (GLC) 
  • Interfraternity Council (IFC) 
  • Multicultural Greek Council (MGC) 
  • National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) 
  • Panhellenic Council (PC) 
  • Greek ancillary and honorary organizations

You’ll work closely with students, advisors, faculty, and national partners to enhance programming, expand leadership opportunities, and elevate the overall fraternity and sorority experience.

The anticipated annual base salary for this position is up to $75,000 based on experience.    

 

How You’ll Spend Your Time 

Program & Leadership Development — 50% 

  • Lead initiatives that enhance the fraternal experience and promote inclusive, values-based leadership. 
  • Partner with student leaders to plan programs, trainings, and signature events such as Greek Week, recruitment, and annual awards. 
  • Support fraternity and sorority recruitment, expansion, and recognition processes. 
  • Collaborate with chapter advisors and national headquarters to ensure consistent and effective support. 

Risk Management & Compliance — 25% 

  • Oversee policies, trainings, and prevention initiatives to ensure safe, responsible operations. 
  • Educate students on risk management, hazing prevention, member education, and university policies. 
  • Serve as chair of the University Hazing Education Team (UHET) and lead annual programming, including National Hazing Prevention Week. 
  • Provide guidance during sensitive conduct cases and crisis response situations. 

Administration & Strategic Planning — 15% 

  • Assess programs, student engagement trends, and FSL outcomes to drive continuous improvement. 
  • Manage budgets, fundraising efforts, and external funding opportunities. 
  • Oversee data reporting, membership tracking, and policy documentation. 

Collaboration & Campus Engagement — 10% 

  • Partner with campus departments to deliver Weeks of Welcome, Homecoming, Cougar Madness, and other signature events. 
  • Represent SLIC at orientations, leadership trainings, and professional conferences. 
  • Build strong connections between students, advisors, faculty, and national organizations to support a vibrant FSL community. 

 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or related field PLUS a minimum of three (3) years of professional experience in student services programs within Student Affairs and/or Higher Education; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 

Preferences:  

  • Master's Degree in College Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, Counseling, Leadership, or a related field is preferred and may be substituted for one year of the professional experience. 
  • Experience working in the area of fraternity/sorority affairs (university or national organization) 
  • Experience implementing and advising risk management within a college environment 
  • Experience working with ethical development, accountability and/or student conduct procedures in a college setting 
  • Experience working with diverse students and student groups
