Description: What you'll be doing

Another Source’s client, Oregon Health and Science University Foundation, is recruiting a Senior Director of Corporate Engagement to join their team. The role can be based in Portland, OR, or fully remote with travel to Portland about once per month.

The OHSU Foundation is a nonprofit arm of Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, Oregon, dedicated to fueling innovation, education, and patient care through philanthropy. Since its founding in 1971, it has pooled donations to support medical research, scholarships, and hospital programs—most notably integrating the Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in 2021. Through responsible stewardship of gifts and strategic partnerships, the foundation plays a central role in advancing OHSU’s mission to improve health and equity across Oregon. 

 

About the role 

The Senior Director of Development - Corporate Engagement will be responsible for re-building a firm-wide, holistic corporate engagement program and developing a strategy for identifying and engaging new and existing corporate partners that can drive philanthropic support for OHSU’s mission areas of education, research, and clinical care. 

 

In addition to building a program, the Senior Director will also manage a portfolio across the entire spectrum of corporate engagement – from qualification to solicitation to stewardship - focusing primarily on corporate prospects at the major and principal gift level. The Senior Director will be responsible for developing close partnerships with OHSU faculty, the OHSU Innovates group, which include Tech Transfer, Collaborations & Entrepreneurship, and the Knight Strategic Alliances team, and OHSU Foundation external partners, to develop and sustain meaningful corporate partnerships. This position will work to grow and sustain robust support from corporate and industry partners, working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to ensure solicitations and approaches to corporations, corporate foundations, and related organizations are coordinated. 

 

The anticipated annual salary range for this position is $125,000- $154,000. Relocation support available. 

 

What you will be doing:   

Corporate Relations Program Development & Portfolio Management (60%) 

  • Build a sustainable corporate engagement program, capitalizing on many existing relationships in a collaborative way.  
  • Lead corporate fundraising strategy in collaboration with OHSU and OHSUF partners; introduce best practices and innovative initiatives to advance corporate philanthropy    
  • Work collaboratively with multiple units across OHSU and within OHSUF to ensure streamlined interactions with corporate partners. Build strategic alliances and a coalition of support to drive and increase corporate philanthropy and engagement across OHSU schools, centers, and programs  
  • Build and manage a portfolio of assigned corporate prospects and donors with current and potential giving between $50,000 - $1,000,000+.  
  • Cultivate, solicit and steward corporate prospects through outreach, engagement and collaboration with OHSU partners  
  • Partner with internal and external stakeholders (board members, OHSU faculty, OHSUF development officers, leaders) to develop and maximize strategies to secure gifts and grants from corporate partners in line with institutional priorities.   
  • Collaborate with OHSU’s alliance teams to identify existing industry collaborators or sponsors that may be further cultivated for philanthropic gifts  
  • Conduct strategy and solicitation meetings with foundation and corporate executives, program officers, and representatives  
  • Clearly communicate and synthesize complex scientific ideas in easily understandable ways  
  • Develop any relevant policies and procedures needed to ensure seamless and cohesive engagement of corporate partners   
  • Generate and present reports and materials to highlight impact resulting from corporate engagement  
  • Collaboratively partner across OHSUF teams to align corporate engagement strategies with the potential for blended gifts/grants  
  • Develop recognition and benefit packages for corporate and industry partners in line with appropriate OHSUF stewardship policies, laws, and regulations 

Identification and qualification of corporate partners (40%) 

  • Identify and develop external relationships with corporations and corporate foundations, to acquaint potential corporate prospects with OHSU strengths, capabilities and priorities   
  • Identify new corporate partners and re-engage lapsed corporate relationships 
  • Conduct research to identify alignment between corporate funding interests and OHSU’s priorities and funding needs; identify key corporate philanthropy decision makers and facilitate their engagement with OHSU leadership 

 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • 10+ years corporate and/or foundation fundraising experience with a heavy focus on principal gift level ($1M+) corporate fundraising, corporate partnership management experience and/or business development experience  
  • Experience in healthcare or related industry, or academic/research experience in the life sciences  
  • Demonstrated experience building a fundraising program or significantly growing a corporate fundraising program. 
  • Proven knowledge of corporate philanthropy, with a focus on academic medicine and/or health and science. 
  • Strong project management and organizational skills; ability to manage, track and prioritize multiple projects or tasks simultaneously 
  • Sound judgment and a deep commitment to high professional standards and ethics 
  • Compassionate and culturally-responsive; maintains an ability to work well with diverse internal and external individuals and groups
