Purpose of the Position 

The Director of Disability Support Services reports to the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and is responsible for the planning, development, coordination, and oversight of support services for students with disabilitiesDirects and evaluates the work of the Office Manager & Testing Coordinator, DSS Counselor & Support Services Coordinator, Senior DSS Coordinator & Counselor, Psychologist & Learning Disabilities Specialist, Notetaker Coordinator, Testing Scheduler, and temporary staff. 

 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs, the Director leads Disability Support Services in providing essential accommodations and advocacy for students with disabilities. 
  • Provide strategic leadership and oversight for all programs and services within Disability Support Services. 
  • Supervise a team that includes counselors, specialists, coordinators, interpreters, and temporary staff. 
  • Ensure compliance with ADA, Section 504, CSU guidelines, and related policies. 
  • Oversee budget, operations, and resource management. 
  • Develop campus-wide partnerships to support student success and accessibility. 
  • Advocate for inclusive practices, identify and address barriers to access, and propose innovative solutions. 
  • Represent CSUSM in system-wide and community partnerships. 

What You’ll Bring (Minimum Qualifications) 

  • Bachelor’s degree in rehabilitation counseling, special education, educational psychology, counseling, or related field 
  • At least six years of progressively responsible experience in higher education student services, including four years of supervisory/leadership experience 
  • Demonstrated ability to lead diverse teams, resolve complex issues, and foster an inclusive environment 

What May Strengthen Your Application (Preferred Qualifications) 

  • Master’s degree in a related field 
  • 3–4 years of direct work experience in disability support services in an academic setting 
  • Strong knowledge of student development theory, ADA/Section 504 compliance, and accommodations practices

Salary: $120,000–$125,000
