Another Source's client, California State University, Fullerton, is recruiting a Director of Development, Health and Human Development to join their team in Fullerton, California. Whether you've built your fundraising career in higher education or are a successful major gift fundraiser in the nonprofit or healthcare sector looking to transition into higher education, this is an opportunity to connect philanthropy with student success, community impact, and one of California's leading public universities. 

This is a hybrid position with one remote workday per week.

About this role: 

This is an exciting opportunity to join University Advancement as the fundraising leader for one of Cal State Fullerton's most impactful colleges. Partnering closely with the Dean of the College of Health and Human Development and reporting to the Assistant Vice President for College and Program Development, you'll build meaningful relationships with donors whose philanthropy directly supports student success, innovative research, and programs that strengthen communities throughout Southern California. 

As a frontline major gift officer managing a portfolio of approximately 125 prospects, you'll play a key role in expanding philanthropic support while collaborating with faculty, campus leadership, alumni, corporate partners, and foundation leaders to advance the college's strategic priorities. You'll have the opportunity to shape fundraising strategy for a college whose graduates are making a tangible difference in healthcare, education, public health, and human services across the region. 

How you will spend your time 

  • Build, cultivate, solicit, and steward relationships with major gift prospects, alumni, parents, corporate partners, foundations, faculty, and community supporters. 
  • Manage a portfolio of approximately 125 major gift prospects through every stage of the donor lifecycle. 
  • Partner with the Dean and University Advancement leadership to develop and execute strategic fundraising priorities for the College of Health and Human Development. 
  • Develop and implement fundraising strategies that increase individual, corporate, and foundation support. 
  • Collaborate across University Advancement, Corporate and Foundation Relations, and Sponsored Programs to maximize philanthropic opportunities. 
  • Provide fundraising guidance and strategic counsel to faculty and academic programs. 
  • Champion a culture of philanthropy while helping strengthen relationships across the university and community. 
  • Represent Cal State Fullerton at donor meetings, cultivation events, and university functions, including occasional evenings and weekends.

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in a related field. 
  • Three to five years of demonstrated success in major gift fundraising. 
  • Proven ability to cultivate, solicit, and secure gifts of $25,000 or more. 
  • Ability to understand and navigate the culture of a university or similarly complex organization. 
  • Experience building collaborative relationships with faculty, staff, volunteers, and external partners. 
  • Experience planning and supporting fundraising events and donor engagement activities. 
  • Ability to develop and execute strategic fundraising plans while measuring outcomes. 
  • Ability to travel regularly for donor cultivation and solicitation meetings. 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and donor database systems. 
  •  

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience as a frontline fundraising professional within higher education. 
  • Experience fundraising for healthcare, health and human services, or related mission-driven organizations. 
  • Advanced degree. 
  •  

Compensation & Benefits 

Salary Range: $91,200–$111,600 annually
